When a student first enters a medical school, little will he or she be able to predict how their educational journey is going to be. These interactions with patients provide a wealth of knowledge and motivate a clinician to accelerate his journey in the health sciences. To gain advanced training in the field, it is necessary for health providers to commit to the effort with continuous, rigorous hard work and dedication.
The advancement of research and technology in the health sector can positively impact the young generation to opt for more knowledge and education. However, such distilled understanding of the health sciences poses an exciting challenge for a health professional with a degree behind the name.
On one hand, the amount of hard work one does for years, squeezes to two to six letters post-nominal alphabets. Additionally, there is a constant criticism from the near and dears for neglecting friends and family for the sake of a piece of paper. Undoubtedly, such practical advancement in education helps a person to accelerate his or her career to the next level. There are numerous reasons why the intellectual achievementof a health provider is often not fully understood by the people or the community. Although, from the learning angle, there is a constant necessity to upgrade the new skill to provide a better solution to the patient. However,such higher education facilities are not usually available at their local place. Hence, one needs to hibernate for at least three to four years to the environment of a medical institute. Merging back to the mainstream society is challenging for health providers due to the lack of bridging infrastructure.Many doctors initially struggle to match their qualifications and skill sets with the available local hospital. For instance, neurosurgeons in a village setting often find themselves mis fitted with the infrastructure provided with their level of expertise. Thus, a gap exists between the local demands,available infrastructure, and level of knowledge
Perhaps, strategies of policymakers should focus more on bridging the gap between the community and the skill holders. The new generation of health professionals should provided with a platform where they can easily connect with the community and can offer their expert opinion. Thus, the long list of post-nominal letters can indeed be useful in its full potential.
